Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week 18 Roundup

And, scene! The NFL regular season has ended after 18 exciting weeks of action.

While some former Penn State players rested in week 18 due to preparation for the playoffs, others still took to the field looking to clinch playoff berths or earn themselves a hefty incentive.

So, for the final time this regular season, let’s look at how the weekend went for these players.

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth was the team’s leading receiver in their 19-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Freiermuth recorded eight catches, 85 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown in the pivotal contest.

Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons became the fourth player in NFL history with double-digit sacks in each of his first four NFL seasons after a 2.5 sack performance in the team’s 23-19 loss to the Washington Commanders. Parsons also recorded four total tackles during the game.

Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals

Tight end Mike Gesicki was a frequent target in the Cincinnati Bengals’ 19-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers as he caught eight passes for 68 yards.

Odafe Oweh, Baltimore Ravens

Edge rusher Odafe Oweh made his way into the sack column once as the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Cleveland Browns 35-10 to clinch the AFC North. Oweh’s one sack brought him to a double-digit sack total for the first time in his four-year career.

Miles Sanders, Carolina Panthers

Running back Miles Sanders had himself a day as he amassed 116 all-purpose yards, including the game-winning rushing touchdown in Carolina’s 44-38 overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons. Sanders also caught a touchdown pass as he had a season-high 50 receiving yards on the day.

Jahan Dotson, Philadelphia Eagles

In a game where the team rested some of their starters, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson made the most of the opportunity as he caught seven passes for 94 receiving yards in their 20-13 win over the New York Giants.

Other Notables

  • Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange caught four passes for 60 receiving yards in the team’s 26-23 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
  • San Francisco 49ers defensive back Ji’Ayir Brown racked up five tackles in the team’s 47-24 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
  • Steelers defensive back Joey Porter Jr. had six tackles and one pass breakup in the team’s Saturday night loss to the Bengals.
