[Photo Story] A Deep Dive Through Onward State’s Media Library

Onward State staffers have captured a lot since its founding in 2008. From former President Barack Obama to green men running rampant around campus, here is a photo dump with absolutely no reasoning or context behind it other than we think these photos deserve to be published.

Starting strong, the Nittany Lion in one of his less flattering moments on the field. He is a symbol of strength for the university, seeing him like this humanizes him for us all.

A 2000s-era tailgate equipped with a full band. You know it’s old when you can see unrenovated East Halls in the background.

An absolutely real photo of President Neeli Bendapudi and a Porshe.

Editor’s note: I am the reason this photo exists.

A typical, happy Penn State student on any average day. Interesting outfit choice.

Always refreshing to see the blue-haired Hulk Hogan fan at the men’s hockey games.

These guys were all over campus, for some reason.

A (slightly depressing?) Nittany Lion wannabe.

Penn State students have been doing whatever they can do since the beginning of time to find love on this campus. Hopefully, Sebastian is doing well.

Obama absolutely beaming as he holds up a Penn State jersey on the steps of Old Main.

Something is off about this Nittany Lion, and the kid in gray seems to realize that. Must’ve been laundry day or something.

This could be Travis Scott’s best picture maybe ever, and it happened right at the BJC. Astroworld = Happy Valley.

A Penn State wedding is all any of us could ever really want.

The Walmart yodeling kid at THON, back when we could still get big-name celebrities to perform here.

RIP H&M. I would have loved to know you.

Wholesome.

A COVID-19 era “dorm tailgate”

Another totally real unedited photo of when we had College GameDay in the lovely Arboretum.

Student riots downtown in 2011 after Osama Bin Laden’s death was announced.

A photo from frat row that has such an endearing quality about it you might start to think that only endearing things have ever happened in there.

Keegan Michael-Key coaching Penn State’s Blue-White game.

Squirrel interview. Capital-J Journalism.

Four huge Penn State fans.

James Franklin, desperate to beat Ohio State, takes a different tact to recruiting.

I can’t imagine genuinely any scenario where this was necessary for the press conference.

A happy skier on HUB lawn.

Saquon Barkley in his actual prime.

Last but not least, a THON baby.
