Report: Penn State Hoops Alum Lamar Stevens Signs With Memphis Grizzlies

Penn State basketball legend Lamar Stevens has found a new home in a familiar place.

ESPN basketball reporter Shams Charania reported that Stevens signed a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night.

Stevens played with the Grizzlies late last season when they were utterly ravaged by injury, averaging a career-high 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds a game in 19 games.

Stevens is in his fifth NBA season. The 2020 undrafted free agent spent the first three seasons of his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers before splitting time with the Boston Celtics and Grizzlies last season. He holds career averages of 5.7 points and 2.9 rebounds a game in 203 total games.

The face of the resurgent 2019-20 Penn State basketball team, Stevens, was just seven points shy of breaking the all-time scoring record held by Talor Battle when the season was suddenly ended by the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. It was a disappointing end to a great career that looked to culminate in the best NCAA Tournament seed for the Nittany Lions since at least 2000-01. He averaged 16.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in his four seasons in the blue and white.
