Fez Wins Battle Of The Bands & Will Open Movin’ On 2025

Alternative rock band Fez was crowned the champion of Movin’ On’s Battle of the Bands in Schwab Auditorium on Thursday night and will open the 50th Movin’ On music festival.

The judges that voted for Fez were Alex Auman from the Hot Fudge Yacht Rock Club, which won Battle of the Bands last year, Jason Olcese from My Hero Zero, and Grammy-nominated DJ Rictor.

Alternative rock group Sunday Love Club opened the event and made its Battle debut by performing some original tracks. The group started with a slower track titled “Title Fight” but picked up the pace as it moved into “Cannonball” for its next performance.

Sunday Love Club closed its set by slowing down the tempo again with its song “how do i say goodbye (to someone i’ve known my whole damn life).”

The second performance was rapper Swervo Staacks. The Brooklyn native opened his set by performing his “Swerv Interlude” and followed with “The Come Up” and “Gassin.”

Staacks switched it up and performed “Whoop Dat” and wrapped up his set by performing “Like Swervo” and “No Smoke.”

Little Blue and the Stargazers was the next music group to perform. The indie Latin fusion group started its performance of “On The Line.” Its second performance was a different vibe, and language, as they performed “En Las Nubes.”

The group then moved into “Esperando” and finished its performance with a song titled “Eyes In The Palm Of Your Hand,” where it even broke out a saxophone at the song’s conclusion.

The Battle of the Bands winner Fez was the next performance and was dressed appropriately. The band walked on stage in red gowns with a red fez on each of their heads. The audience then chanted “Fez” right before the performance.

The alternate rock group kicked off its set with a loud and brash performance of its song “Hole.” Fez kept the energy up the entire performance and even got the crowd involved as it moved on to “Stuttgart Stu” and “Disappearing Act” before performing “Tom and Jerry.” The crowd chanted the band’s name once again as it left the stage after performing “I Just Want Something.”

The indie rock group Just made its second performance at Battle of the Bands. The group began with “Forget” and got the crowd to sing along before switching to its “Interstate Daydream” album where they performed “Black Dress” as the audience broke out its phone flashlights. The group ended the set by performing “I Hope You’re Doing Well.”

Forrester Grey, an indie/alternate group performed three new songs off of its upcoming album. The group started with “Ashtrays” and moved to “Depotism” before wrapping up its performance with a song called “The Choir Sings Along.”

Former Penn State football offensive lineman Golden Achumba performed next. His R&B/afro beats performance started with the song “Handle Me” and transitioned into one of his older songs, “Time For Me.”

Achumba picked up the tempo with his next song “Text Message” and followed with “Put You First.” He closed his set by singing “Akwa Nwa” and “Sample 4 U.”

The final performance of the night was pop-rock band Amelia and the Bad Men. The group started by performing “Little Lies” and the band switched to a country vibe with its performance of “Bad Man.” The final song of the night was “Games Of War.”

Movin’ On’s annual music festival will take place on Friday, May 2, at the Penn State Intramural Fields. Other than Fez, the official lineup for the event has yet to be announced.
