Penn State Wrestling Granted Five No. 1 Seeds For 2025 Big Ten Championships

The Big Ten released the matchups for each weight class ahead of the championship’s Saturday start.

The Nittany Lions’ opponents are as follows.

125 lbs.- No. 4 Luke Lilledahl vs. No. 13 Caelan Riley (Illinois)

133 lbs.- No. 4 Braeden Davis vs. No. 13 Andrew Hampton (Michigan State)

141 lbs.- No. 1 Beau Bartlett vs. winner of No. 8 Henry Porter (Indiana) and No. 9 Greyson Clark (Purdue)

149 lbs.- No. 1 Shayne Van Ness vs. winner of No. 8 Kal Miller (Maryland) and No. 9 Dylan Gilcher (Michigan)

157 lbs.- No. 2 Tyler Kasak vs. winner of No. 7 Trevor Chumbley (Northwestern) and No. 10 Conner Harer (Rutgers)

165 lbs.- No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink vs. winner of No. 8 Maxx Mayfield (Northwestern) and No. 9 Paddy Gallagher (Ohio State)

174 lbs.- No. 1 Levi Haines vs. winner of No. 8 Brody Baumann (Purdue) and No. 9 Lucas Condon (Wisconsin)

184 lbs.- No. 1 Carter Starocci vs. winner of No. 8 Ryder Rogotzke (Ohio State) and No. 9 Donnell Washington (Indiana)

197 lbs.- No. 2 Josh Barr vs. winner of No. 7 Camden McDanel (Nebraska) and No. 10 Remy Cotton (Michigan State)

285 lbs.- No. 2 Greg Kerkvliet vs. winner of No. 7 Ben Kueter (Iowa) and No. 10 Hayden Filipovich (Purdue)

The postseason is finally here, folks.

After yet another undefeated regular season where Penn State wrestling eclipsed 70 straight dual wins, the Big Ten released the preliminary seeding for the Big Ten Championships, which included all 10 Nittany Lion starters. The Nittany Lions have won back-to-back Big Ten team titles as they look to defend the honor once again on March 8 and 9 in Evanston, Illinois.

Five Nittany Lions received the top seed in their respective weight class with every wrestler being seeded inside of the top four.

The following is a complete list of each wrestler’s seed in their respective weight class.

125 lbs. – No. 4 Luke Lilledahl

133 lbs. – No. 4 Braeden Davis

141 lbs. – No. 1 Beau Bartlett

149 lbs. – No. 1 Shayne Van Ness

157 lbs. – No. 2 Tyler Kasak

165 lbs. – No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink

174 lbs. – No. 1 Levi Haines

184 lbs. – No. 1 Carter Starocci

197 lbs. – No. 2 Josh Barr

285 lbs. – No. 2 Greg Kerkvliet

The 2025 Big Ten wrestling championships will kick off with sessions one and two on March 8 starting at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively. The tournament will come to a close after sessions three and four on March 9, with the fourth and final session, including the championship bouts, starting at 5:30 p.m. in Evanston. All sessions will be available for viewing on BTN+ and the Big Ten Network.
