[Photo Story] Fez Wins Movin’ On 2025’s Battle of the Bands

To properly select a student band to perform in Movin’ On’s 50th year, the organization hosted its annual Battle of the Bands competition in Schwab Auditorium.

There were a total of eight performers competing for one spot to perform in the Movin’ On concert this year, including Sunday Love Club, Swervo Staacks, Little Blue and the Stargazers, Fez, Just, Forrester Grey, Goldens Achumba, and Amelia and the Bad Men.

While they competed by singing their hearts out and playing their instruments the best they could, we compiled photos of the free mini-concert.

As always, our photographers were there to capture it all.

Alternative rock group Sunday Love Club led off the night with songs like “Cannonball” and “how do i say goodbye (to someone i’ve known my whole damn life).”

Swervo Staacks took the microphone next, performing “The Come Up,” “Gassin,” and more.

Swervo knew how to bring the energy!

Little Blue and the Stargazers followed, bringing indie Latin fusion to the stage. It played “Esperando” and “Eyes In The Palm Of Your Hand,” where it even broke out a saxophone at the latter song’s conclusion.

This band brought the vibes to the room with a little bit of country to shake up the night!

The evening’s winner, Fez, showed up to the performance wearing actual fezes on each of its heads.

The group had the best outfits of the night and kept the crowd involved.

Just followed next, with indie rock performances of “Black Dress” and “I Hope You’re Doing Well.”

Forrester Grey, an indie/alternative group, gave us three songs off its album.

Oh, hey, Garfield! Where is your instrument?

Former Penn State football player Golden Achumba took the stage next. Achumba, who sang the national anthem at the 2023 Blue-White Game, performed R&B/afro beats.

Amelia and the Bad Men, a pop-rock band, closed out the evening’s performances.

This crew closed out the performances perfectly with its three songs: “Little Lies,” “Bad Man,” and “Games Of War.”

With all the performances in the rearview mirror, it was time for the judges to decide who would be performing at Movin’ On this year.

The judge’s final verdict was in favor of Fez. The group earned the right to take its musical talents to the big stage for Movin’ On this year. Congrats, Fez!
