Tussey Mountain Pond Skim Set For March 22

Local ski area Tussey Mountain has announced its annual pond skim will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 22. Located 10 minutes from campus in Boalsburg, the event promises to be the “biggest and wettest” in mountain history.

If you’ve never heard of a “pond skim,” it’s an event put on by ski resorts to mark the end of the season with what little snow is left in the spring. The mountain crew will make a pond at the bottom of the slope for contestants to try to surf across — they usually sink, though. Skiers and snowboarders both are welcome to try their skills and see if they can float.

Lift tickets can be purchased online or in person and will be discounted to $30 for the event. The area around the pond will be open to spectators with a “festive atmosphere,” and contestants are encouraged to wear costumes. If you don’t have your own equipment and still want to join, you can use code RENTAL50 to get a 50% discount on a rental set.
