Staff Picks: Baseball Walk-Up Songs

If there’s one thing that sets the tone at a Penn State baseball game, it’s the actual tones of the ballpack themselves.
This year’s baseball walk-up songs have transported fans everywhere: from the 80s, Lady Gaga’s early hits, the divorce-dad rock era, and today’s most popular pop radio songs. Our staff, like any baseball fans would, came up with what their walk-up songs would be if they played for Penn State.
Sarah Nasif: ‘Outfit’ – Lil Baby & 21 Savage
As a former softball player of 12 years and rap fanatic, I was never the player who stepped up to the plate to a throwback. I always needed a good bass drop to give off that intimidating factor and to get excited and locked in. There’s nothing that achieves this more than the GOAT, Lil Baby.
Oscar Orellana: ‘My Way’ – Limp Bizkit
My walk-up song would be Limp Bizkit’s “My Way”. I’d strike fear into all opposing pitchers because every at-bat goes my way. I’d channel the Bizkit’s Woodstock ’99 energy behind every swing and lead the Nittany Lions to victory.
Ryan McInerney: ‘Stats’ – Baby Keem
Start it at 1:03. It’ll make you want to hit the baseball 500 feet to dead center.
Dillon Williams: ‘Walk’ – Kodak Black
“Walk” is an aptly named song for a baseball walk-up song! The song has a hard beat and is something you can get yourself hyped up to, but also a versatile song where you can be nonchalant about it. I can just imagine walking up to the plate and adjusting my batting gear while this blares through the speakers at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, and I think someone on the team should take up the suggestion.
Melanie Thalhimer: ‘DNA’ – Kendrick Lamar
I picked “DNA” by Kendrick Lamar because it was the song I would always play right before I’d go on stage for dance competitions to hype me up. Not only will it get me hyped up as I walk to home plate, but it will get the crowd hyped, too.
I mean, who doesn’t love a good Kendrick Lamar song during baseball?
Ben Rosenbaum: ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ – Guns N’ Roses
My walk-up song would be “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses. I like the intro, and I think it would make an excellent walk-up song overall.
Michael Siroty: ‘Million Voices’ – Otto
AY-AY-AY-AY-AY. AH-AH-AH-AH-AH.
This song gets me so fired up. If I hear this on my way to the plate, it’s a guaranteed home run every at-bat.
Alexandria Smith: ‘Ice Ice Baby’ – Vanilla Ice
My walk-up song would be “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice. It’s an electric song and my all-time favorite. It’s been my number one on Spotify for the past three years. Every time I walked up to the plate with that song, I would hit a home run. The beat itself would bring me to Omaha for the College World Series. My only issue is that I would be distracted by singing the song and get hit with a ball or something.
Cadyn Gill: ‘Gunz N Butter’ – A$AP Rocky
If I were a baseball player walking up to the plate, I’d pick “Gunz N Butter” by A$AP Rocky for my walk-up song. The beat, the transitions, and the signature Rocky vocals/adlibs would instantly get me locked in and ready to go yard on the first pitch of my at-bat.
Kayla Wakeley: ‘Timeless’ – The Weeknd & Playboi Carti
I chose “Timeless” by The Weeknd and Playboi Carti. Call me basic, say it’s overhyped, I don’t care — “Timeless” is a guaranteed home run. The vibe’s undeniable and will have me feeling unstoppable.
Nolan Wick: ‘Til I Collapse’ – Eminem
This is legendary MLB pitcher Justin Verlander’s walkup song, and as a former pitcher growing up, it would be my choice if I could pitch competitively one more time. As soon as Eminem begins speaking in the song’s intro, you immediately understand the vibe. The flow, instrumental, and lyricism of the rest of the song make this an ideal pick if you need to lock in, get fired up, and strike out a dozen hitters.
Joe Lister: ‘The Spins’ – Mac Miller
Dope shit like that, Jerm.
