Penn State Hoops Alum Calvin Booth Released From General Manager Position With Denver Nuggets

Former Penn State men’s basketball player Calvin Booth will not see his contract extended as the general manager of the Denver Nuggets, the organization announced Tuesday.
The former Big Ten Defensive Player Of The Year joined the Nuggets organization during the 2017 season, serving as an assistant general manager under Tim Connelly. Booth was promoted as the Nuggets’ general manager in 2020.
Booth’s first job in the NBA came as a scout for the New Orleans Pelicans in 2012. The Minnesota Timberwolves then hired him as a scout and the director of player personnel in 2013. Booth worked in Minnesota until joining Denver’s front office four years later.
While in Denver, Booth drafted Penn State guard Jalen Pickett with the No. 32 overall selection in the 2023 NBA Draft. This marked Pickett as the highest drafted Nittany Lion in the program’s history, a record once held by Booth, who holds Penn State’s record in career blocks.
Booth also signed former Penn State guard Andrew Funk as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He was waived by the Nuggets and then joined the Grand Rapids Gold, the team’s G-League affiliate.
Before his front office career, Booth was drafted by the Washington Wizards with the No. 35 overall selection in the 1999 NBA Draft.
Booth’s son, Carey Booth, was once committed to play basketball for the Nittany Lions. However, he backed out of his commitment when former head coach Micah Shrewsberry left for Notre Dame. Carey Booth followed Shrewsberry to South Bend before transferring to Illinois in 2024.
