Calgary Flames Sign Former Penn State Men’s Hockey Goaltender Arsenii Sergeev To Two-Year Contract

The Calgary Flames are signing Penn State men’s hockey goaltender Arsenii Sergeev to a two-year, two-way contract, the Flames announced. The contract is set to begin in the 2025-26 season for an average annual value of $866,250.
Sergeev impressed in his only season with the Nittany Lions. He posted a .919% save rate, 2.54 goals-against-average, and a 19-9-4 record over 33 games, all career highs. The Yaroslavl, Russia, native transferred to Penn State after two seasons at UConn to replace outgoing netminder Liam Souliere.
Sergeev was among the catalysts of Penn State’s historic season, which culminated in the program’s first-ever Frozen Four appearance. He was named the Big Ten’s first star of the week in February, and the team’s near-unbeaten second-half surge coincided with his return from a weeks-long injury absence.
Calgary selected Sergeev with the No. 205 overall pick in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The Flames sit fourth in the Pacific Division, two points out of a playoff spot. Its roster includes goaltenders Dustin Wolf, who has a 2.62 goals-against-average and .910% save rate, and backup Dan Vladar.
Sergeev’s departure leaves a gaping hole that Penn State must fill. Noah Grannan and John Seifarth are the only goaltenders on the roster, so it may not be surprising if the program brings in another goaltender via the transfer portal this summer.
