Two Penn State Women’s Lacrosse Players Snag Big Ten Weekly Accolades

Penn State women’s lacrosse’s midfielders Lauren Saltz and Brooke Long were tabbed the Big Ten Midfielder of the Week and Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

The awards come after the Nittany Lions defeated No. 22 USC 16-8 on Sunday as the team celebrated Senior Day. Penn State extended its winning streak to five as it heads into its final game of the regular season.

Saltz notched a goal and an assist while also winning three draw controls in the win. This is her first time taking home the Midfielder of the Week award, and she is the first Nittany Lion to win it since Kristin O’Neill on April 16, 2024.

Long scored her first career hat-trick against the Trojans on four shots. Additionally, she tabbed two ground balls and caused two turnovers. Long collects her first Freshman of the Week award and is the first to win it for Penn State since Kelly MacKinney on April 23, 2024.

Saltz, Long, and Penn State conclude their regular season against No. 8 Johns Hopkins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, in Baltimore.
