Report: Penn State Alum Justin Hagenman Set To Make MLB Debut For New York Mets Against Minnesota Twins

Justin Hagenman is set to make his Major League debut on Wednesday as the New York Mets face the Minnesota Twins in a series finale at Target Field, manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters. The 28-year-old was called up to replace Griffin Canning, who was scratched from his start due to illness.
While the Mets have not announced whether Hagenman will get the start or relieve the opener, he is the only fully rested pitcher available on the roster.
Hagenman pitched at Penn State from 2015 to 2018, earning Big Ten All-Freshman honors. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft and spent time in the minors before being traded to the Red Sox in 2023.
In the 2024 season with the Worcester Red Sox, Hagenman posted a 4.91 ERA with 98 strikeouts over 91.2 innings of work.
After a season and a half with Boston’s Triple-A affiliate, he signed a major league contract with the New York Mets. This year, he has made two starts for the Syracuse Mets, with his most recent outing on April 10.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
