American Foundation For Suicide Prevention At Penn State To Host ‘Out Of The Darkness’ Suicide Prevention Walk

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at Penn State is set to host its second annual “Out of the Darkness” Walk for Suicide Prevention on April 27. The walk will begin on HUB Lawn and expand across campus. Participants can start signing in at 11 a.m., with the walk beginning at noon.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention holds campus walks in cities across the country, all to raise money towards preventing suicide, one of the leading causes of death in the United States.

The event will raise money towards suicide prevention while also reducing stigma surrounding mental health struggles. Those who have lost someone to suicide will also be able to pay homage to their loved ones through “Honor Beads,” which indicate personal connections to the cause.

The day will include activities like vendor booths, chances to share messages of hope, and photo opportunities to spread awareness on social media.

Those interested can walk as an individual or on a team, volunteer on the event committee, or even sponsor the event.

“We believe that by coming together as a community, we can make a significant impact on mental health advocacy,” Mia Nasser, the president of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at Penn State, said in a release.

Registration, donations, and sponsorship opportunities can be found on the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s website.
