Penn State Baseball Pitcher Chase Renner Selected No. 378 Overall By the Miami Marlins

Cue “Miami” by Will Smith.

With the No. 378 pick, the Miami Marlins selected right-handed pitcher Chase Renner in the 13th round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

Renner becomes the fourth Nittany Lion selected on Monday in day two of the annual event, and the program’s second pitcher.

It is the first time since 2019 that Penn State has seen two pitchers selected within the same draft. Left-handed pitcher Ryan Desanto was selected just six picks prior to Renner at No. 372 overall.

In his redshirt junior season with the Nittany Lions, the right-handed reliever made 17 appearances, accumulating 30 strikeouts across 21.2 innings. Overall, Renner recorded a 2.91 ERA.

Renner joins outfielder Paxton Kling, infielder Ryan Weingartner, and left-handed pitcher Ryan Desanto in the list of Nittany Lions selected in this year’s event.

Renner may choose to forego his last year of eligibility to sign with the Marlins or return to Happy Valley for a final season.
