State College Borough Announces Parking Changes And Travel Restrictions Ahead Of Move-In Week

Fall semester is almost here, folks! With move-in week quickly approaching, the State College Borough has announced multiple travel restrictions and parking changes to aid with safety and congestion on busy streets.

The new travel restrictions are as follows:

  • From August 16-17, the 100 block of Hetzel Street will turn into a one-way from Beaver Ave. to College Ave. (northbound) and be restricted to one lane to allow for loading and unloading.
  • From August 18-20, East Calder Way between Garner Street and Heister Street will be closed. Heister Street will be closed from Calder Way to Beaver Avenue.
  • On August 18 and August 23, Highland Alley from Pugh Street to A Alley will be closed. A Alley will be one-way from Highland Alley to East Foster Ave.
  • From August 20-23, one lane of West College Ave. from Burrowes Street to Atherton Street will be closed.
  • From August 22-23, H Alley will be one-way behind the Graduate apartments.

The borough reminds visitors and residents that vehicles are strictly prohibited from stopping in travel lanes to unload unless the lane is specifically closed for this purpose.

In addition to these restrictions, the borough announced it would be lifting the “No Parking 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.” restriction from Monday, August 18 at 2 a.m. until Monday, August 25 at 2 a.m. The one and two-hour limits in residential neighborhoods will also be lifted from Monday, August 18 at 6 a.m. until Sunday, August 24 at 6 a.m.

The usual restrictions will still apply, including:

  • No parking on a sidewalk
  • No parking within an intersection
  • No parking on a crosswalk or within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection
  • No parking 30 feet from a stop sign
  • No parking over 12 inches from the curb
  • No parking in front of a driveway
  • No parking against traffic or in a designated no-parking zone

The borough encourages all travelers to be patient and cautious during this busy time to ensure everyone has a safe and speedy move-in process.
