Quavo Electrifies Crowd During ‘LightsUp’ Performance

HUB Lawn was absolutely bustling Thursday night for the 2025 Student Programming Association (SPA) concert, headlined this year by American rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer, Quavo.
The annual event helps students ring in the new semester with live music, activities, inflatables, and even multiple Kona Ice trucks.
The evening began with an exhilarating opening performance from Indian rapper and singer, Abhi the Nomad. His mix of rap and alternative hip hip warmed up the crowd and got them moving in anticipation of Quavo’s arrival.
He began with his 2019 hit “Wide Awake” and kept up the momentum by immediately rolling into subsequent hits, “Good Luck” and “Sex and Drugs.”

“I know you’re waiting for Quavo to rap so I’m gonna rap a little bit for you guys,” Abhi said to the cheering crowd before transitioning to “Rockstar” off his 2021 album, “Abhi vs. the Universe”.
Between his talented electric guitarist and his upbeat sound, no one was standing still by the time he left the stage.
Minutes before Quavo’s much anticipated arrival, rain drops began to fall. However, the crowd’s mood didn’t falter.
The rapper’s hit song “Hannah Montana” echoed through HUB Lawn as the swarm of students screamed as he took to the stage.
“Penn State, we finna go crazy,” Quavo shouted to his fans.
He bounced back and forth between some of his solo hits and Migos songs, the hip hop group he was a part of with Offset and late rapper Takeoff, who died in 2022.
The 2013 Migos hit “Versace” was immediately followed by one of Quavo’s 2025 songs, “Trappa Rappa.”
“When I say take me, you say through there,” he shouted to the buzzing crowd before launching into Metro Boomin’s song “Take Me Thru Dere” that Quavo is featured on.
“We don’t give a f*** about no rain,” he said as he marched on through multiple more songs.
The crowd swayed, jumped, and screamed as he played “I’m The One,” DJ Khaled’s popular 2017 hit featuring Quavo and Justin Bieber. He also played Gucci Mane’s “I Get the Bag,” which features Migos.

Other highlights included “Pure Water” by Migos and Mustard, “Narcos” by Migos, and “MotorSport” by Migos, Cardi B, and Nicki Minaj.
Throughout the show, he payed tribute to Takeoff, his former bandmate and nephew.
“If you miss my brother let me hear a Takeoff,” he shouted, and the crowd responded instantly, making T’s with their arms.
Energy stayed high as he transitioned to “Walk It Talk It” by Migos featuring Drake and “Stir Fry,” one of Migos’ most famous hits.
“If you feeling like you the number one college in the world let me hear a hell f*** yeah,” he screamed as the audience cheered back. “You know I love Penn State, but I’m a dog,” he said in reference to the Gerogia Bulldogs, his favorite team and home state.
“I think they unlocked it, they feeling bad tonight,” Quavo laughed. Everyone began to scream as he began to play another one of Migos’ most popular hits, “Bad and Boujee.”

He ended the night with “Congratulations,” a song he is featured on with Post Malone that boasts over 2 million streams on Spotify alone.
The slightly damp but overall charged-up crowd launched into a “We Are” chant after he thanked everyone and left the stage. Students left the HUB Lawn smiling and ready to take on the upcoming school year.
