Transfer Portal Roundup: Week One

Penn State defeated Nevada 46-11 on Saturday, with 73 players hitting the field. But, with Penn State’s first game back in a new-look Beaver Stadium, the Nittany Lions were missing many familiar faces from last year’s semifinal run.
Here’s how they did on their new teams.
Beau Pribula: Missouri
Likely the most well-known transfer of last year’s class, Beau Pribula didn’t enter week one with a solidified starting job. His competitor for the job, Georgia native Sam Horn, faced a first-quarter injury, placing him on crutches after one of his first plays. When asked about his return, head coach Eliah Drinkwitz said he would be out for “an extended period of time.”
Pribula took his chance as the lone starter in his first game in front of over 57,000 fans, accounting for two rushing touchdowns and two through the air. His final stat line was 283 yards in 28 passes, rushing 65 total yards on the ground. Missouri defeated Central Arkansas, 61-6.
Pribula will have the starting job without competition next week against Kansas at home. It is unclear whether or not there will continue to be a competition for the starting spot when Horn returns.
Harrison Wallace III: Ole Miss
Harrison Wallace was a key receiver for the Rebels in their dominating home-opener win against Georgia State. He scored one touchdown and recorded five total receptions for 130 total yards.
A comfortable starter, Wallace will be quite busy this year as the Rebels prepare for an SEC schedule without Giants first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart. The Rebels’ new starting quarterback, Austin Simmons, went 20/31 in the air and also had a strong run game that featured sophomore Kewan Lacy, tallying 108 yards in 16 carries.
Omari Evans: Washington
It was a back-and-forth for Washington until the Huskies pulled away with a 10-0 fourth-quarter run to defeat Colorado State 38-21. With the offense finally clicking late in the game, they prevailed without Omari Evans, who was one of eight injured Huskies.
The former Penn State wide receiver who transferred with “a heavy heart” for his senior year racked up 21 receptions for 415 yards and five touchdowns last season.
Although he didn’t play on Saturday, the coaching staff has listed him as questionable, meaning he may be in the starting lineup Week 2 against UC-Davis.
Ta’Mere Robinson: USC
The Trojans took down Missouri State while in cruise control Saturday night, 73-13. Former Nittany Lion linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson recorded two tackles.
Lincoln Riley’s offense is once again one of the most energetic in the Big Ten, and will look to play spoiler against one of the four AP top-25 teams on its schedule. Their defense, bringing in eight transfers, is looking to match their offense’s energy, as one poll already has USC ranked in the top 10 due to major upsets across the board.
Cam Miller: Rutgers
It was a back-and-forth game between the Scarlet Knights and the Bobcats of Ohio University. Rutgers, as per usual, has a tough schedule ahead, and Head Coach Greg Schiano, now entering his 16th year as head coach and sixth of his second stint, was able to use a dominant 24-0 second quarter to survive Ohio, 34-31.
Defensive back Cam Miller, a former Nittany Lion, made five tackles, two assisted, three solo. He also scored a touchdown for the Scarlett Knights after a blocked punt put the ball in the end zone. Miller and Rutgers host Miami (OH) next week in Piscataway.
Tyrece Mills: UConn
UConn trounced Central Connecticut in its opener, 59-13, and recent Penn State transfer Tyrece Mills recorded three tackles at defensive back.
JB Nelson: Kansas State
Kansas State has returned from Ireland for its home opener against North Dakota. Offensive lineman JB Nelson helped the Wildcats right the ship in Week 2, enabling junior quarterback Avery Johnson to throw for 318 yards.
With the game tied late, Nelson was able to connect for his third touchdown pass to running back Joe Johnson with 42 seconds left in the game. The defense would hold on, and Kansas State is 1-1 on the year, set to host Army next Saturday night.
Keyvone Lee: UNLV
It was game two of the season for former Penn State running back Keyvone Lee. The Rebels moved to 2-0 on the season, defeating Sam Houston State 38-21. Keyvone Lee had seven carries for 42 rushing yards. Jai’Den Thomas, the starting running back for the Rebels, rushed for 65 yards on nine carries.
The airfare was also strong on the offensive side of the football for the Rebels, quarterback Anthony Colandrea went 19/23 passing with 249 yards. He also threw for two touchdowns.
Smith Vilbert and Joseph Mupoyi: UNC
The long-anticipated wait for Bill Belichick, who has the most Super Bowls and second-most wins of any head coach in NFL history, to coach his first college football game has come to an end after the Tar Heels’ loss to TCU Monday night, 48-14.
Vilbert and Mupoyi both recorded two tackles from the defensive line as the UNC defense collapsed, giving up four touchdowns in the second half. In general, the defensive line struggled for the Tar Heels, letting TCU rush for over 200 yards.
The Tar Heels, with Vilbert and Mupoyi, look to bounce back next weekend against Charlotte.
