Centre County Report Expands TV Market With WTAJ-TV Partnership

Penn State student-produced newscast Centre Country Report has expanded its TV market by partnering with WTAJ-TV, which serves the Johnstown-Altoona-State College area.

Centre County Report already streams on news channels in KYW-TV (Philadelphia), KDKA-TV (Pittsburgh), WNEP-TV (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton), and WJZ-TV (Baltimore). Additionally, the show airs live on WPSU-TV in State College, and can also be found on YouTube, Facebook, and X.

“We’re proud to expand our student newscast reach to WTAJ-TV viewers in central Pennsylvania and add the station as a media partner,” said Steve Kraycik, an associate teaching professor and director of student television in the Bellisario College, in a press release. “It’s another way to showcase our students’ great work to Pennsylvania news viewers.”

The newscast is produced weekly during the academic year by students in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications. It serves as a source of news for the residents of Centre County and provides an opportunity for journalism students to gain real-world practice.

Centre County Report has earned various recognitions on regional and national levels from organizations such as the Broadcast Education Association and the College Media Association. Earlier this year, it won an Edward R. Murrow award for video feature reporting.

Several new episodes of the newscast have already been produced since students returned for the fall semester, and WTAJ-TV viewers have a new local news source to enjoy.
