Topps Releases First Gavin McKenna Trading Cards

Penn State hockey prodigy Gavin McKenna has signed a trading card and autograph deal with Topps, the trading card and collectibles manufacturer announced Friday on X.

Since announcing the deal, Topps has released McKenna’s first trading cards as part of its “Bowman U NOW” set. The card features a photo of McKenna in action against Arizona State. Collectors who purchase the card have a chance to receive autographed cards or cards featuring pieces of the jersey that McKenna wore in his Penn State debut.

McKenna’s debut card is available on the Topps website until October 7.

There was no mention of McKenna’s deal being exclusive or long-term, but Topps has signed star athletes like Victor Wembanyama and Jayden Daniels to exclusive deals in the past. If McKenna is as good as advertised, he could be the next young star to join the list of Topps exclusive athletes.

Topps, one of the most successful Major League Baseball card manufacturers, does not hold the license for National Hockey League cards, meaning that it cannot produce cards with official NHL team names or logos. However, college licensing is up for grabs through NIL deals, and McKenna’s first trading cards do feature official Penn State branding.
