Penn State Women’s Volleyball’s Kennedy Martin Named Big Ten Player Of The Week For Third Time

Penn State women’s volleyball’s right-side hitter Kennedy Martin earned Big Ten Player of the Week accolades for the third time this season, the conference announced on Monday.

The Junior and Florida transfer was previously awarded the accolade during weeks one and six of the regular season. Martin earns the accolades after tremendous performances in this week’s Nittany Lion wins over No. 7 Wisconsin and Northwestern.

In the Nittany Lions’ upset sweep over the Badgers, Martin recorded a .474 hitting percentage, 23 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces. She then continued on her standout run in the consecutive days’ match against Northwestern, finishing with a hitting percentage of .412, 24 kills, 7 digs, and 2 blocks.

Throughout this week’s play, the junior recorded an average of 7.36 points, 6.71 kills, and 2.14 digs per set. Martin and Penn State’s victorious week propelled them up two spots in the AVCA rankings to No. 17.

This week, the Nittany Lions will hit the road for two away conference matchups. Penn State will travel to Washington on Friday, October 17, with first serve beginning at 10 p.m. Then, Penn State heads to Eugene, Oregon, to face the Ducks at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 18. Both events will be streamed on the Big Ten Network.
