Shaver’s Creek To Temporarily Close Starting October 27

The temporary closure will mark the beginning of a parking lot expansion and stormwater mitigation project.

The center will operate irregularly under this closure. Visitors should refer to the Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center website and social media pages for hours and parking information.

This project features numerous enhancements to the environmental center. The parking lot will be expanded to accommodate 155 parking spots, featuring more accessible parking and new electric vehicle charging stations. Drainage basins will also be installed as engineers are working to prevent trails and roadsides from washouts during heavy rainfall.

Joshua Potter, associate director of operations for Shaver’s Creek, stated that green space and wildlife habitats played a major role in the planning of this project. Early designs would’ve overlapped into areas the center is looking to protect, such as pine tree sites that are home to birds unique to Shaver’s Creek.

Potter stressed that all disturbed landscapes will be replanted at the conclusion of the project.
