UPUA Passes Bill To Fund Fall Lyft Subsidies

The 20th Assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) met on Wednesday to confirm the Executive Director of Resources and pass three pieces of legislation.

The meeting was delayed half an hour as there were not enough UPUA representatives present to meet the quorum.

Due to this delay, there were no reports, and the assembly moved right into New Business.

New Business

The first piece of New Business for the night was Bill #36-20: Red Zone Conclusion Tabling. This bill allows UPUA to purchase food for their Red Zone Awareness Initiative tabling event on Thursday, November 20, in the HUB. The Red Zone refers to the time of year during the first half of the fall semester when there are higher rates of reported sexual assault cases on campus. The UPUA has been diligent in promoting awareness of the Red Zone through sexual violence awareness projects, and wishes to continue promoting the Red Zone to students through this tabling event.

In addition to providing food, UPUA will use this tabling event to give out resource pamphlets, drink covers, and phone wallets.

Bill #36-20: Red Zone Conclusion Tabling passed unanimously.

The second bill of the night was Bill #37-20: Funding for Fall Break Lyft Subsidies. This bill allows UPUA to fund up to 66 $15 Lyft ride coupons from Thursday, November 20, to Monday, December 1, for students. Each ride must include the State College airport as a drop-off or pick-up point for the credit to apply. This will allow students to have affordable transportation if traveling home for Thanksgiving break.

Bill #37-20: Funding for Fall Break Lyft Subsidies passed unanimously.

The last piece of the new business for the night was Resolution #06-20: White Building Improvements. This resolution detailed areas in which the UPUA believes the White Building can be improved for students. This includes upgrades to the equipment, including adding more mirrors, providing a student feedback QR code, and including more privacy infrastructure in the White Building pool area.

Resolution #06-20: White Building Improvements passed overwhelmingly.

Swearing-In & Confirmations

The only confirmation of the night was the confirmation of the Executive Director of Resources, Ayden Meise.
