Penn State Men’s Hockey Stays At No. 5 In USCHO Poll

Penn State men’s hockey split a two-game series over the weekend with No. 2 Michigan, rebounding from a blowout defeat on Friday with an emphatic home victory on Saturday. The up-and-down weekend saw the Nittany Lions hold serve in the rankings.
In the latest USCHO poll released on Monday, the men’s hockey team stayed at No. 5 with a 10-4-0 record.
Michigan State remains the No. 1 team in the country, with Michigan coming in right behind them. After a split with unranked Omaha, Minnesota-Duluth flipped with No. 3 Denver, dropping to No. 4. Penn State is 56 points behind No. 4 Minnesota-Duluth and 52 points ahead of No. 6 North Dakota.
Volatility in Hockey East and ECAC was the biggest story of this week’s rankings, as No. 11 UConn rose three spots, No. 13 Dartmouth rose six spots, and both No. 17 UMass and No. 18 Boston College fell five spots.
Outside of Michigan and Michigan State, Wisconsin is the only other Big Ten team ranked, holding at No. 7 after splitting with Ohio State. The Buckeyes remained the first team out of the rankings, 42 points behind No. 20 Union. Minnesota and Notre Dame remain outside the “receiving votes” section.
The men’s hockey team goes back on the road to face Minnesota at 8 p.m. on Friday, November 21. The game will be broadcast on FS1.
