No. 4 Penn State Women’s Hockey Dominates No. 7 Northeastern 4-1

No 4. Penn State women’s hockey ( 17-1-0, 12-0-0 AHA) took care of business against No. 7 Northeastern (13-3-0, 9-0-0 HEA) after falling short yesterday.
After yesterday’s upset, the Nittany Lions came back today to tie the series against Northeastern. Penn State dominated offensively, creating scoring opportunities in all three periods.
How It Happened
Penn State won the faceoff to start the game, aiming to find momentum. Both teams struggled to find an opening as the puck bounced back and forth between them.
Penn State earned the game’s first power play after a two-minute Minor was assessed to Lily Shannon for high-sticking. Katelyn Roberts attacked from behind the net, but was unable to find an opening against the Huskies’ defense on the man advantage.
Shannon, in the slot, drove the puck past Katie Desa, making it 1-0 Northeastern 12:41 into the game. Grace Outwater was given a penalty for cross-checking, sending Northeastern onto the power play. With minutes left in the first, the Nittany Lions killed another Northeastern power play after a penalty was called on Maya Vaslet for interference.
The Nittany Lions built momentum to start the second, with Taylor Lum driving the puck into the back of the net, bringing the score to a tie 1-1 with 16:33 into the game.
Penn State continued to attack the goal, firing on the Huskies’ defense. Katelyn Roberts from behind the net sank the puck into the goal, bringing the score to 2-1 in favor of Penn State with 8:40 on the clock.
Northeastern aimed to find rhythm on the power play after a cross-checking penalty was given to Mati Fantin. Jules Constantinople tried to set up a play but was blocked by Vaslet. The Huskies were not able to capitalize on the power.
A two-minute minor was assessed to Constantinople for roughing, starting the power play for PSU, and leaving it four-on-four for the remainder of the second.
Starting the third, Dani Maynard received a 2-minute minor for tripping, sending the Huskies on the power play. Northeastern, attacking the goal, was unable to find an opening through Penn State’s defense.
Outwater took a shot from behind the net but missed, with Maddy Christian burying her rebound into the back of the net from the left side, bringing the score to 3-1 Penn State with 14:05 remaining in regulation.
Northeastern, desperate to score, struggled to find an opening against Penn State’s defense. Mikah Keller shot from in front of the net, bringing the score to 4-1 Penn State with 5:32 remaining.
With minutes left in play, tensions broke out on the ice, and Jaden Bogden got a penalty for high-sticking, sending Penn State on the power play. The game ended 4-1, with Penn State tying the series against Northeastern.
