Three Penn State Football Defensive & Special Teams Players Named To All-Big Ten Third Team

Postseason accolade season is upon us.

Penn State football edge rusher Dani Dennis-Sutton, linebacker Amare Campbell, and punter Gabe Nwosu were named to the All-Big Ten Third Team, the conference announced Wednesday. Eight other Nittany Lions earned honorable mentions.

Dennis-Sutton, a senior from Millsboro, Delaware, had previously been named a Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2024 and stepped up in a big way to fill Abdul Carter’s shoes for the 2025 team. In 12 games, he tallied 38 tackles, ten tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three pass deflections. He was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on November 17 after two sacks against Michigan State.

He also showed his might on special teams, tying the program record with three blocked punts, including one against UCLA that turned into a scoop-and-score for Liam Clifford. Dennis-Sutton was a consensus selection.

Campbell, a junior from Manassas, Virginia, showed out in his first season as a Nittany Lion. After transferring from North Carolina in the spring transfer portal, he emerged as the team’s top linebacker. His importance was amplified after Tony Rojas’ season-ending injury in September.

The junior finished with 96 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and a game-winning scoop-and-score against Rutgers, when he picked up a dropped ball by Rutgers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis and returned it for a 61-yard touchdown to take the lead. Campbell was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Scarlet Knights.

Nwosu, a redshirt senior from Derwood, Maryland, won the starting punter job over Riley Thompson before the season. He continued to showcase the big leg that Penn State fans had seen on kickoffs for years. Of his 35 punts, Nwosu had ten travel more than 50 yards, 14 placed inside the 20-yard line, and seven downed inside the 10. His average punt went 46.1 yards, a program record, and his season-long was a monstrous 68 yards.

Defensive tackle Zane Durant, cornerback A.J. Harris, cornerback Audavion Collins, safety Zakee Wheatley, safety King Mack, kicker Ryan Barker, long snapper Tyler Duzansky, and return specialist Nick Singleton were all named honorable mentions.
