BYU Fans Donate To State College Food Bank After Kalani Sitake Turns Down Head Coach Job

With the rejection of the Penn State football head coaching job by BYU head coach Kalani Sitake, BYU fans showed their pleasure by donating to the State College Food Bank.

Starting Tuesday, BYU fans reportedly made around 142 online donations, with the full amount totaling $4,862.32. This amount is enough for the food bank to feed more than 200 people for an entire month.

With Tuesday also doubling as the globally known “Giving Tuesday,” the food bank also received various donations from the local State College community. However, the bank’s executive director, Allayn Beck, mentioned that there were several ways to filter through the donations to find BYU-specific amounts. One of these ways was looking for amounts totaling $30.17, a nudge at the last time Penn State played BYU, with the game resulting in a BYU win, 30-17.

This whole initiative spanned directly from a BYU-focused podcast, entitled “Give ‘Em Hell, Brigham.” A listener suggested this idea of donating, and the host led the charge, donating himself while also posting on X about it.

Folks who are interested in following in the BYU community’s footsteps and donate to the State College Food Bank can do so at scfoodbank.org/donate/financial-donations.
