What You Can Buy With The Estimated $370.8 Million Coaches Earned From Penn State Football’s Head Coach Search

After 54 days of flight tracking, countless false hopes, and “trust me, bro” rumors to last a lifetime, the Penn State football head coaching search is finally over. Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Pat Kraft “spearheaded” the search, producing just about everything except an actual coach for almost two months.

But while Penn Staters spent all this time suffering, refreshing X, and dealing with dozens of decommitments and “Not Penn State” graphics, the rest of college football was getting paid. According to On3, at least seven head coaches used Penn State’s vacancy as leverage to sign new extensions, totalling an estimated $370.8 million in guaranteed money.

Indiana’s Curt Cignetti signed an eight-year, $92.8 million extension; Nebraska’s Matt Rhule added roughly $25 million in guaranteed money; Kalani Sitake turned down the Nittany Lions and immediately signed a new deal worth $9-$9.5 million annually; and coaches at Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Louisville all secured new long-term raises while Penn State remained coachless.

So we got to thinking… What exactly can you buy with the $370.8 million Penn State indirectly handed out to coaches across college football?

Two 1995 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupes

The most expensive car ever sold is the 1995 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, which went for $142.5 million at auction. With $370.8 million, you could buy both of the only known prototypes and still have just about $85 million leftover.

4 Million Apple x Issey Miyake iPhone Pockets

Apple’s new Apple x Issey Miyake iPhone Pocket is all the talk right now and has sold out almost instantly. The short strap version costs $149.99 and comes in eight colors, and the long strap version costs $229.95 and comes in three colors — and every single one of them is still sold out as of now. With the $370.8 million, you could buy 2,742,490 of the short strap pockets or 1,612,210 of the long strap pockets. If you split your money between both designs, that’s roughly 4.08 million iPhone Pockets between all the colors Apple makes. Realistically, you cannot even get one right now, but maybe one day you’ll be able to get your hands on that many.

2.3 Million Labubu Mystery Box 6-Packs

The Labubu “Big Into Energy Series” six-pack costs $159.99. You could buy 2,317,700 Labubu six-packs, which adds up to 13,906,200 individual Labubus. At that scale, you would basically guarantee yourself the one and only Golden Labubu.

Joseph Lau’s Boeing 747-8 VIP

Hong Kong billionare Jospeh Lau owns a custom Boeing 747-8 VIP that is considered the second most expensive private jet owned by a billionaire in the world, carrying a price tag of nearly $370 million. With the money other coaches earned during Penn State’s search, you could buy this exact jet for yourself and still have some change left over for fuel. It includes loungers, bedrooms, and a full dining area.

18.5 Million Erewhon Smoothies

Erewhon smoothies are all over social media and somehow cost $20 on average. You could buy 18,540,000 Erewhon smoothies, just enough to taste them all, complain online how it’s not worth $20, and still have millions left to hand out to every Los Angeles influencer.
