[Photo Story] Penn State Men’s Hockey Takes On The Fighting Irish Of Notre Dame

After the first week of classes, fans made their way to Pegula Ice Arena to watch No. 8-ranked Penn State men’s hockey’s series against Notre Dame. The Nittany Lions secured the sweep against the Fighting Irish.

Our photographers were there to capture all the action. Let’s see how the series went for the Nittany Lions.

Friday, January 16

The Nittany Lions started the weekend off right on the ice.

Matt DiMarsico found the back of the net with help from Luke Misa and Gavin McKenna. Goalie Josh Fleming was able to fend off multiple shots, keeping the Fighting Irish scoreless. DiMarsico scored his second of the game with 30 seconds left in the second period.

Misa added a goal, and DiMarsico scored twice to earn his third hat trick of the season, securing the night one win for the Nittany Lions against Notre Dame.

Saturday, January 17

Desperate to win, Notre Dame came back ready for more.

Goalie Kevin Reidler made his 12th start of the season on night two of the series. Seconds into the game, JJ Wiebusch scored, followed by another goal from Jackson Smith with an assist from Crespo, making the game 2-0 for the Nittany Lions.

Notre Dame was able to come back and tie the game during the second period, but not for long. With goals from DiMarsico and McKenna, and an empty-netter from Dane Dowiak, the Nittany Lions were able to sweep the series with a 6-3 win over the Fighting Irish.
