Penn State Football Cancels 2027 Matchup With Delaware

Penn State football will no longer play Delaware in September 2027, according to a press release from the University of Delaware on Wednesday.

The two sides “mutually agreed to cancel the contest” that was tentatively scheduled for September 11, 2027. It was the second game of a two-game series agreed upon in 2018. The Nittany Lions rolled to a 63-7 win in the first and, now only, matchup in 2023. There is no word on whether any compensation on either side will be dished out for cancelling the contest.

The Blue Hens, who recently made the jump to the FBS in 2025, are filling the slot with Big Ten rival Illinois, while Penn State will now look around college football for a third non-conference opponent to join the 2027 schedule. The Nittany Lions are currently still scheduled to face Syracuse on September 4 and Temple on September 18 of that year, both at Beaver Stadium.
