No Refund Theatre Presents: ‘Waiting For Godot’

No Refund Theatre’s long-awaited return in the spring semester is finally here with Samuel Beckett’s classic “Waiting for Godot”. Directed by Jackson Malenke and Matthew Gray, the “tragicomedy in two acts” is fun for everyone, except maybe the characters.
As the title suggests, the play is about two guys, Estragon and Vladimir (or, Gogo and Didi), waiting for a third: Godot. They sit on a bench before a dead-looking tree and wait. Yes, that’s really it, and no, nothing really happens. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a ball.

Gogo and Didi (Joseph “JBam” Bampton and Jack “J.P.” Peterson, respectively) make waiting for Godot as entertaining as possible. They bounce off each other with every line to the point that it almost seems like they’re doing improv. Their conversations go from one thing to the next until they circle back, and we hear it all again, and it’s just as funny.
The monotony of waiting is broken by two newcomers: the master, Pozzo, and his servant, Lucky (Nolan “Ferda” Murphy and Tyler “Stippy Stoppy” Steeprow). Even more mayhem is caused by these two, with all-star dance moves, stools, canes, and even a monologue. It’s just guys being guys.
No Refund Theatre’s production of “Waiting for Godot” is running in Forum 111 from Thursday, January 29th to Saturday, the 31st, starting at 8 p.m. each night. If you wait long enough, I hear Godot will show up.
