The Best Fan Jerseys From The Penn State Men’s Hockey Game At Beaver Stadium

By all accounts, everyone had a blast at Beaver Stadium on Saturday, watching Penn State men’s hockey play an instant classic of a game against No. 2 Michigan State in front of nearly 75,000 people.
While the final result left fans exiting the stadium disappointed, there were still plenty of highlights, both on and outside of the rink. When a hockey game like this becomes such a large spectacle, you see a great array of jerseys from fans who want to rep the sport, but don’t necessarily have a Gavin McKenna jersey handy.
The most common jerseys we saw were the usuals. From football jerseys to McKenna sweaters to unnamed or unnumbered Penn State sweaters, if you can name it, it was probably there. There was also a smattering of Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers sweaters, as is typical in a place sandwiched between Pennsylvania’s two largest cities.
But what were the most unique jerseys we saw at Beaver Stadium on Saturday? These are the ones that really caught our eye.
Shayne Gostisbehere, Philadelphia Flyers (50th Anniversary)

While we’ll exclude generic Penguins and Flyers jerseys here because of the commonality, this specific jersey stood out because, from the press box, we saw three different people donning this special edition sweater from 2016-17.
At the time, Gostisbehere was a young, star defenseman for the Flyers, registering 24 goals and 85 points through his first two seasons. His tenure in Philadelphia would come to an end a few years later after some ineffective seasons marred by injury, resulting in him being salary-dumped to the Arizona Coyotes in 2021. He currently plays for the Carolina Hurricanes.
It’s the fact that three separate people in three separate sections wore this same alternate jersey from almost 10 years ago that made it stand out above the rest.
Unnamed Colorado Rockies (NHL)
This one was spotted with binoculars across the stadium, so it was hard to tell which player it was, if there was one at all.
The Colorado Rockies, while, yes, a baseball team, existed in the NHL from 1976-82 after the Kansas City Scouts relocated just two years after being established. In 1982, the Rockies moved to Newark to become the New Jersey Devils. We couldn’t tell if this jersey was one of the Colorado Avalanche’s throwbacks or a vintage sweater from the late 1970s, but it’s a good pull nonetheless.
Paul Posluszny, Buffalo Bills

There were dozens of Penn State football jerseys in the crowd and even some NFL variants, including Tyler Warren. No jersey, however, was a better pull than two-time All-American Paul Posluszny’s jersey from his time with the Bills from 2007-10. Kudos to whoever pulled this out of their closet.
Matt Rempe, New York Rangers (Stadium Series)

After the Flyers and Penguins, the Rangers had the most representation in the crowd on Saturday, with various jerseys ranging from Adam Fox’s Four Nations sweater to Igor Shesterkin’s one from the Winter Classic. The best one, though, was one by a little-used fourth liner whose jersey sales are predicated on the fact he’s 6-foot-7 and wants to drop the gloves every single night.
Rempe, for a while, was a cult hero in Rangers land for always being willing to scrap, taking the role of a modern-day enforcer. The team’s struggles the last two seasons have washed that away, to an extent, but a fair share of Rempe jerseys are still out there, including this one from the 2024 Stadium Series at MetLife Stadium.
Carter Hart, Philadelphia Flyers (Hockey Fights Cancer)

Another exception to the rule of excluding the Penguins and Flyers is one of the more out-of-pocket jerseys we saw on Saturday. Someone came to Beaver Stadium repping former Flyers and current Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Carter Hart.
Hart’s NHL career came to a halt in 2024 after he and several other players were accused of sexual assault as part of an ongoing investigation into the 2018 Hockey Canada World Juniors squad. Hart was found not guilty in July 2025 and latched on in Vegas, but remains controversial in the NHL to this day.
Peter Bondra, Washington Capitals

I absolutely adore these old Capitals jerseys. Peter Bondra was a five-time All-Star who scored 503 career goals across 16 seasons, almost exclusively with the Capitals. The jersey is dated from 1998, so this is a real classic. There were two other Capitals jerseys that we saw in the crowd, Tom Wilson and, of course, Alex Ovechkin.
Rod Brind’Amour, Carolina Hurricanes

The current head coach of the Hurricanes was even represented on Saturday! Brind’Amour was a key piece of the team’s 2006 Stanley Cup championship, and he won a pair of Selke Trophies as the NHL’s top defensive forward.
Charlie Cerrato, who was inactive on Saturday, was drafted by Brind’Amour’s Hurricanes in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, so there’s a good chance that one of Penn State’s top forwards will be playing for him very soon.
Assorted Miracle On Ice Sweaters

Of course. A mainstay at any American hockey game, several different jerseys from the “Miracle on Ice” team that won gold at the 1980 Winter Olympics made their way to Beaver Stadium on Saturday, including Mike Eruzione and Jack O’Callahan.
Part of the pregame hype package played at Beaver on Saturday was a clip from the 2004 hit movie “Miracle,” where an actor portraying Herb Brooks delivered his immortal speech.
Matthew Schaefer, Erie Otters

There were some junior hockey uniforms scattered around the crowd, but some were either exceptionally deep pulls that we couldn’t decipher or were not particularly relevant. One of the ones we saw that stood out, however, was 2025 No. 1 overall pick Matthew Schaefer’s jersey from his time on the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League.
Schaefer is currently the overwhelming favorite to win the Calder Trophy as a member of the New York Islanders. He is the NHL’s top rookie and is on pace to break the all-time rookie goal record by a defenseman.
Deshaun Watson, Clemson
We’ve lost the plot.
