Penn Staters You Forgot Played In The Pro Bowl

For all NFL fans growing up, the Pro Bowl was a huge spectacle. Seeing the league’s brightest stars show off their skills and personalities underneath the sun in Hawaii is one of the core NFL memories of my childhood. Although the format has changed throughout the years, the amount of talent on display during the Pro Bowl only grows year after year. As one of the powerhouses in college football, Penn State has produced the best of the best. Throughout the years, there have been some noticeable names that have slipped through the headlines. We have compiled a list of names that even the most die-hard Nittany Lions fans may have forgotten about over the years.

Jordan Stout — Punter (2019-2021)

The Baltimore Ravens punter’s breakout season landed him his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2026. Before shining in the league, Stout was a fan favorite for the Nittany Lions, where he was a versatile specialist handling kickoffs, field goals, and punts. His 57-yard field goal against the University of Pittsburgh still stands as the longest field goal in Penn State football history. The former Big Ten Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year and Ray Guy Award finalist continues to bring glory for Penn State football.

Eddie Drummond — Wide Receiver (1998-2001)

For Linebacker University, the number of skill players Penn State has sent to the Pro Bowl is just as impressive. The former Detroit special teams weapon was sent to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl in 2004, after an impressive season where he accumulated two punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns. Playing both in the back field and running routes for Penn State, Drummond finished his collegiate career with over 1,100 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

Allen Robinson — Wide Receiver (2011-2013)

Allen Robinson earned his nod for the Pro Bowl in 2015 after he hauled in 80 receptions for 1,400 yards and a Jacksonville Jaguars record 14 touchdowns. Before turning pro, Robinson was considered one of Penn State football’s finest. He was named the Big Ten receiver of the year twice and also earned himself a spot on the 2013 All-American roster.

Miles Sanders — Running Back (2016-2018)

Before another Nittany Lion became the main man in Philadelphia’s backfield, Miles Sanders put together an impressive Pro Bowl campaign in 2022. Sanders rushed for 1,269 yards and found the end zone 11 times that season. While donning the famous blue and white, Sanders was named the 2018 Penn State Football’s Most Valuable Player of the Year. During his breakout season, he rushed for over 1,200 yards and nine touchdowns, and was named Second-Team All-Big Ten.

Robbie Gould– Kicker (2001-2004)

Robbie Gould earned his trip to Hawaii during his second year in the league. Leading all kickers in points, he was selected as a First-Team All-Pro that same year. What many people do not know is that Gould started his career in State College as a walk-on, eventually earning his own scholarship. As well as becoming one of the most reliable scorers in the country while in college, he was also a recipient of the Frank Patrick Memorial Total Commitment Award for his dedication and contributions to the Penn State program.

Chris Godwin — Wide Receiver (2014-2016)

Chris Godwin broke onto the scene in 2019, where he was selected to his first Pro Bowl after totaling 86 catches for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The impressive season also established him as one of the NFL’s premier wide receivers, as he was selected to the Second-Team All-Pro that same year. Before his NFL success, Godwin became just the third receiver in school history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. His career bowl totals (22 receptions, 460 yards, three touchdowns) stand as Penn State’s career bowl records for a wide receiver.

Cameron Wake — Defensive End (2000-2004)

Cameron Wake dominated the NFL for many seasons, earning five Pro Bowl selections to go with First-Team All-Pro honors in 2012 with the Miami Dolphins. Many people do not know that Wake went undrafted in 2005 after spending his college career with Penn State, where he amassed 191 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and 24 tackles for loss. Undeterred by not getting selected in the draft, Wake played 2 seasons in the Canadian Football League until he was noticed by the NFL, where he made a name for himself.

Mike Reid — Defensive Lineman (1966-1969)

Penn State football alum and Grammy Award-winning country songwriter Mike Reid earned a Pro Bowl selection in 1972 and 1973 before retiring early to pursue his passion for music. The former All-Pro was drafted seventh in the 1970 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals after an impressive career with the Nittany Lions. Reid starred as a dominant defensive tackle on undefeated 1968–1969 Nittany Lion teams, winning the 1969 Outland Trophy as the nation’s top interior lineman in the process. Reid also collected the Maxwell Award as the country’s outstanding player.
