In the inaugural episode of season 14 of Podward State, hosts Ally Eaton and Michael Siroty were joined by Penn State graduate, play-by-play broadcaster, and professor Brian Tripp.

Tripp enlightened the team on his work with Penn State men’s hockey and baseball as a play-by-play announcer, as well as his time as a sideline reporter for Penn State football for the Penn State Sports Network. We chatted all about how Tripp used his time at Penn State and mentorship with friend of the show Steve Jones to make Happy Valley his home and launch his professional career.

Tripp also serves as the community manager for ROAR+, so he shared his experience helping to build a storytelling-focused platform and how he’s able to connect with a larger audience. He also shared how much he has enjoyed connecting with students in the classroom as a professor of sports broadcasting within the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism.
