Penn State Women’s Lacrosse Establishing Winning Culture After Undefeated Start

Penn State women’s lacrosse has begun the season hot, jumping out to an undefeated 3-0 record in the Kayla Treanor era in dominant fashion.

While the blue and white just snuck past No. 19 Richmond, winning by one, the Nittany Lions netted more than 15 goals in two of the team’s past three games.

In Penn State’s matchup with Bucknell, the team finished with 21 goals from a combined 12 different players. Many individuals were able to showcase their talents during the beatdown of the Bison.

Maddie Greco was one of the players who shone in that game. She put up a hat trick, making her the second leading scorer of the day for Penn State.

“We came together by staying true to our standard,” she said. “We go into every game wanting to play our game, Penn State lacrosse, and not rely on what the other team is doing, and I think that’s going to be a big piece of our success this upcoming season.”

Roquette Allen tallied an impressive five goals in the contest. As a freshman, she needed to come into a new locker room and make an impact on the collegiate level. When asked what her secret was, her answer was simple, yet effective.

“Just working hard every day,” she said.

On Wednesday, Penn State plays Pitt, which is also undefeated and coming off a strong 17-10 conference win against Duke. Treanor spoke about the importance of preparing for Pitt and maintaining the same level of performance shown today.

“This is a really good team that we’re about to play, and we lost to them last year,” she said. “I think our kids will be ready to go; we just need to refocus and get ready for a huge opponent on Wednesday.”

While not in the same conference, Pitt and Penn State share a historic rivalry. The Nittany Lions are looking for revenge from last year, and Treanor believes her players can rise to the occasion to secure the win.

Although Treanor is still attempting to adapt to a new culture and locker room environment, this Penn State team appears confident in its abilities moving forward.

“We’re trying to build a culture here and trying to set the standards and how we want things to be,” she said. “I think the girls have been awesome and totally bought in, and I think we’re definitely building in the right direction, and the kids have been awesome about it.”

Penn State’s conference slate is still a ways away, but the Nittany Lions will look to continue their strong start under Treanor’s leadership. The passion and vision are evident, and the team’s record is a product of it.

Penn State looks to build on this when it faces Pitt at 5 p.m. this Wednesday, February 18, at Panzer Stadium. The game will air on Big Ten Plus.
