‘A Dream Come True’: How Lionette Chloe Nixon Made Her Way From A THON Committee Member To A Dancer

Ever since Chloe Nixon got to Penn State, THON has been a part of her. The Lionette has dreamed of the day she would get to dance in the Bryce Jordan Center, and this year was the year.

“THON has been such an incredible part of my Penn State journey ever since my freshman year,” Nixon said. “The older girls on the Lionettes, obviously, totally inspired me to get involved in THON right away. And dancing has been truly a dream of mine since freshman year, and it’s just so surreal to be here.”

During her first two years contributing to THON, Nixon was a part of an Opp Committee. For the past three years, she has served as the Family Relations Chair for the Lionettes.

This THON, Nixon is getting the chance to dance with two of her roommates and Lionettes teammates, Alexa Lombardo and Sydney Waldner.

“It literally just felt like a dream come true. It’s so so special. And I actually get to do it with two of my teammates who also happen to be my roommates, so that make it just all the more better. And it’s just been so surreal,” Nixon said.

Nixon also recalled how different it has been to serve as a dancer, compared to as a member of an Opps Committee.

“It’s definitely been very different,” Nixon said. “Obviously you’re running around and doing a bunch of different tasks, and sometimes I’ve had moments where I feel like I need to be somewhere. And then I kind of realized, like, I literally don’t have anywhere I need to be.”

Nixon also discussed how this THON has been so special for her, regarding being with other dancers as well as THON families.

“I just need to be doing all of these activities and hanging out with people and meeting new friends and seeing all the families, Nixon said. “And I have 46 hours to just kind of hang around the BJC.”

Nixon’s experiences with the other dancers this THON have been memorable, and are helping to make her continue to believe that THON is an organization worth pouring her energy into.

“Every other dancer here has just been so kind, and everyone’s here for all the right reasons,” Nixon said. “It’s just so special that we’re all here in one building, and we all have the same shared passion for such a great cause.”
