Jon King & Preston Hawkins Earn Penn State Men’s Lacrosse Big Ten Weekly Honors

Penn State men’s lacrosse players Jon King and Preston Hawkins earned Big Ten weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
King, a senior short-stick defensive midfielder, was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week with Ohio State’s Cullen Brown after keeping Maryland to six goals in Penn State’s win. This was King’s first Big Ten weekly honor this season, and the first Defensive Player of the Week for Penn State since Alex Ross two weeks prior.
Hawkins, a freshman goalie, earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award. Hawkins had 14 total saves against Maryland, and his 70% save percentage was a career best. It marked the third time Hawkins has won Freshman of the Week this season.
Penn State’s win over then-No. 11 Maryland improved its record to 5-3, but the team dropped to No. 10 in the latest Inside Lacrosse poll.
King, Hawkins, and the rest of the Nittany Lions will return to action and travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face No. 7 Ohio State at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 28.
