Penn State Men’s Hockey Forward Charlie Cerrato Signs Professional Tryout Agreement With Chicago Wolves

The Chicago Wolves are signing Penn State men’s hockey forward Charlie Cerrato to a professional tryout agreement, sources announced.
Cerrato will join the Carolina Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, where he will have the chance to practice and potentially appear in games. A PTO does not count as an NHL contract, giving the Hurricanes the chance to sign Cerrato to an entry-level deal at a later time.
Cerrato recorded 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists) in 23 games during the 2025-26 campaign, battling an undisclosed injury for a chunk of the season.
During the 2024-25 season, Cerrato skated in 38 games and finished second on the team with 42 points on 15 goals and 27 assists. He led all Big Ten rookies in goals, assists, and points, while ranking second in the nation in both goals and points among freshmen.
Cerrato is the latest Penn Stater to make the jump to the professional level following the team’s NCAA Tournament exit in Albany, New York.
