Subu Vedam’s Deportation Appeal Granted

On Thursday morning, immigration judge Adam Panopoulos granted Subu Vedam’s appeal, which allows him to remain in the United States.
Vedam was released from prison in the fall after his conviction for first-degree murder was overturned. After his release, he was immediately handed over to ICE custody, where he was moved from the Moshannon Valley Processing Center near Philipsburg to Louisiana and later Texas.
Vedam was moved back to the Moshannon Valley Processing Center after his deportation order was vacated in February.
In the ruling, Panopoulos said that Vedam “does not pose a danger to the community” and that his actions while incarcerated showed “good moral character.”
The Department of Homeland Security now has until May 4 to appeal the judge’s decision. According to WJAC, Vedam told the judge that if he were released, he would move to Sacramento, California, to join relatives and finally be free.
