Where To Take Graduation Photos At Penn State

Graduation at Penn State is just around the corner, and has snuck up on us once again. One minute it’s “I’ve got time,” and the next you’re scrambling to find a cap that isn’t wrinkled, a gown that actually fits, and most importantly, a place to take your photos.

Whether you planned this months ago or at the last-minute, here’s your guide to the best spots around campus to capture those important moments.

Nittany Lion Shrine

No Penn State graduation photo is complete without a stop at our very own Nittany Lion. It’s easily the most iconic spot on campus, which also means you can expect a line. But once it’s your turn, it’s definitely worth it, and a spot that you will remember forever.

Old Main

Right after that, you can always make your way to Old Main. This classic spot screams Penn State, and it’s the perfect place for more candid moments like walking across the grass or taking it all in. With plenty of space and all types of areas to take photos, you can find your own angle and location.

‘We Are’ Sculpture

How can we forget about “We Are,” the sign that says everything you need in two words? This simple but bold stop is always recognizable and meaningful. Whether you’re front and center or just framed alongside it, this one makes a statement of what the community is really about.

Beaver Stadium

For a shot that captures the full Penn State experience, you can’t leave without taking one last photo at Beaver Stadium. There’s something about standing outside this masterpiece of a stadium and reminiscing on all the tailgates and football games that makes this a special spot.

Arboretum

If you’re looking for something a little more scenic and full of nature, then make your way over to the Arboretum. With all types of seasonal flowers, greenery, and countless places to take photos, it’s the perfect spot for when everything’s in bloom.

Duck Pond At Hintz Family Alumni Center

For a quieter and more relaxed vibe, the duck pond near the Hintz Alumni Center is your place to be. With the water, gazebo, and surrounding nature, it’s a great spot that’s usually less crowded than others. This is great for winding down and taking more peaceful shots to balance out the chaos of the day.

Mount Nittany

When it comes to off-campus spots, Mount Nittany gives you one of the most rewarding backgrounds for photos you can get. The overlooks are beautiful, and while this outdoorsy spot might be quite a hike, once done, it’s completely worth it. It will provide you with a view and pictures that you will never forget.

Berkey Creamery

Why not start at one of the first places you probably visited on campus? For something a little more fun, stop by the Berkey Creamery to get some playful and personal photos. After all, you can get ice cream before, during, or even after your shots.

Your Favorite Building

Don’t forget about your own favorite building on campus. Whether it’s where you had most of your classes, countless late nights spent, or just somewhere that’s stuck with you, it’s worth adding to the list of spots. This might not seem as “iconic”, but it will definitely feel more meaningful and personal.

Downtown

And finally, of course, you always have downtown State College. From all the small alleyways to the different well-known streets, this gives you a completely different vibe from campus and the other locations. It’s a great way of capturing the side of Penn State that existed beyond your classes.

At the end of the day, there are a number of amazing spots to take your graduation photos. Whether you hit every iconic spot or just a few favorites, it’s all about what’s most meaningful and fun for you.

Years from now, you’re not going to remember if the lighting was perfect or if there was a line, but instead the people you were with, the laughs in between shots, and, of course, getting those photos.
