The Best Warm-Weather Things To Do In State College

Folks, we fought through, and we have finally made it. Warm weather is inching up on us, and we want to make sure you do everything in your power to make the most of it after a grueling winter. While the weeks are still wonky and there is probably a possibility of snow tomorrow, here is a compiled list of things to do in the warm weather.

1. Go To The Arboretum

This has to be No. 1 on our list. If you haven’t been to the Arboretum yet, what are you doing? There is so much to do in one place. During a nice day, you can go for a walk with your friends, take notice of the greenery, the pond, the sculptures, and the children’s playground. Even if you have some schoolwork to get done, find a spot and put down a towel. There is no better feeling than getting some work done in the sun. On the other hand, if the UV is high enough, catch some rays! You will find many students tanning on the Arboretum grass, and with there being so much space, there will be enough for you and your friends!

2. Stroll Through Downtown

The Arboretum and downtown sort of go hand-in-hand. One is at the top of campus, while the other is at the bottom. Walking around State College during the nice weather is a top-tier feeling. You can stop into shops, grab a coffee, meet a friend for lunch outside, and take in the views. If you’re feeling frisky, you might even take a stroll down frat row and admire the lovely Penn State frat men playing die. With there being so many shops, restaurants, boutiques, bakeries, and more, trust us when we say you will not get bored.

3. Go On A Drive

This one may not be applicable for all students, but when the weather is nice out, nothing hits better than a drive with the windows down. Now, if you don’t have a car, you might have a friend with one, and then you can people-watch while they drive. Connect your Spotify, put on your summer playlist, and enjoy the sunshine. Double points if your drive leads you to Sweet Frog. Sunshine and frozen yogurt? What better mix than that?

4. Hit A Penn State Baseball Game

Tuesdays are for Penn State baseball (and every other day of the week), and we want to see you show out in the sunshine. Grab your friends, walk on over to Medlar Field, and catch a game. If you’re lucky, you might even attend a Dollar Dog Night, and then you’ll have to compete on who can eat the most hot dogs. This is something great if you are bored, looking for something to do, and want to support Penn State Athletics.

5. Turn Your Frown Upside Down

This may seem straightforward, but there are many Penn Staters who tend to forget about this. Students, the sun is out! The temperature is high(er)! The UV is above four! Why wouldn’t you be happy? The second you wake up and see sunshine pouring in your window, you should immediately have a great day. Go out and get a treat, buy a coffee, meet up with people that make you happy, go to your classes, and feel the accomplishment of doing so. There is so much opportunity on a nice day, and there are only four weeks until finals. Take a moment to soak it all in because soon enough, you’ll feel impending doom as exams near. It is so easy to be happy in Happy Valley, so take advantage of that!

6. Water Gun Fight

Five Below. 10 bucks. Two water guns. War. Get to it.

7. Day Drink

While we don’t condone this, it isn’t a terrible idea.

8. Berkey Creamery

This might get a bit repetitive talking about places to go, but the Creamery is sometimes forgotten. You simply have not lived until you’ve gotten ice cream from Berkey Creamery. The best part is, you can buy your favorite ice cream in bulk. They have single-serve, they have gallons, they have everything you could ever need. Walking to class? Stop by and grab a bagel or a coffee. Nobody will shame you for having an iced latte if the weather app is reading 65 degrees. This is especially pointed towards those living in East, you all live right next to it! Stop on in!

That’s it, folks, go get after the sun! Enjoy this weather!
