Penn State To Host Sustainability Summit April 23

Penn State is set to host its fourth annual student sustainability summit from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23. The summit’s activities will be free, open to the public, and will take place on HUB Lawn and HUB’s Heritage Hall.
This annual summit, led by various campus organizations and community stakeholders, celebrates the groundbreaking sustainability achievements, projects and initiatives within Penn State. The theme for this year’s summit is “What Else Is Possible?,” inviting attendees to dream big for the future of sustainability and environmental activism.
The event will begin with tabling, activities, and free electric vehicle rides hosted on the HUB Lawn from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Roe Awards Ceremony will take place from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., where students, faculty, and staff will be recognized for their leadership in the field of sustainability across Penn State’s campuses. A student-led discussion will then take place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., as well as a free dinner from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Finally, the summit will conclude with a keynote address from Goldman Environmental Prize winner Laurene Allen from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Allen is known for her protest against per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination, as well as her activism for water safety and improved water quality standards. Attendees can watch the keynote speech virtually via this registration link. Pre-registration is required to attend online.
Allen will also host a “Lunch and Learn” session from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, in Room 201 of the State College Borough Municipal Building. This event is free and open to the public, with free lunch available for all attendees.
