Takeaways
- After relinquishing the EIVA regular-season title to Princeton last season, Penn State made sure to take advantage of its clinching opportunity on a night that was celebrating Mark Pavlik and avoid a winner-take-all match tomorrow. Penn State showed a lot of resilience once again as it overcame its third consecutive 2-1 set deficit.
- The duo of Matthew Luoma and Sean Harvey put the Nittany Lions on their back as they combined for 42 of the team’s 61 kills. Along with that, they combined 14 of the team’s 45 digs and five of the team’s nine blocks.
- This was the third consecutive fifth-set loss for George Mason against Penn State. While it responded from losing the first set by winning the next two sets, it had a great chance to keep its EIVA regular-season title hopes alive, but its hitting percentage will haunt it in this loss as it recorded a hitting percentage of .153 compared to Penn State’s .303.
