UMass Infielder Anthony Tirado Transfers To Penn State Baseball

UMass infielder Anthony Tirado is transferring to Penn State baseball, he announced on social media on Thursday afternoon. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Tirado, who initially committed to UMass out of The Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut, as the No. 10 shortstop in the state in the Class of 2023, redshirted his first season before being a mainstay in the Minutemen lineup over the past two seasons.
In 44 games in 2026, he slashed .335/.403/.456 with 17 extra-base hits, 25 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases in 27 attempts. The shortstop led the team in both batting average and stolen bases before entering the transfer portal after his redshirt sophomore campaign.
Tirado brings tremendous defensive versatility, spending time at five different positions over the past two seasons, both in college and in the Futures Collegiate League that he’s played in the past two summers.
He primarily played shortstop and center field in 2026, but also has experience at second and third base, giving Mike Gambino a variety of options for how to deploy him.
