Giant stuffed fish heads. 4 foot long whips. Hand-made alligator feet. All of these things are not what you would call “ordinary”. However, this Halloween weekend I witnessed all of this and more.
I’m a classy person—want to know why? I just made homemade mac and cheese in my dorm room. In the microwave. In 6 minutes. If you want to be classy like me (and let’s face it who doesn’t) listen up.
Being a legitimate townie (suck it Bellefonte!!) I have spent a lot of my pre and post pubescent years eating at the Corner Room. It’s a fixture of State College life—Allen street would just look strange without it. That being said I feel like I haven’t really appreciated this fine establishment in the way I feel it deserves. On my most recent visit I decided to look at the Corner Room with a new perspective, like I had never eaten there before.
Have you ever wanted to make your very own Pokey Stix? I didn’t even know Pokey Stix existed until a couple weeks ago when they were mentioned in an Onward State post. Given that I’m a townie, my friends were shocked and appalled to say the least. Apparently it’s a well-known fact that if you are inebriated and looking for something to eat, you order Pokey Stix from Gumby’s pizza. I was intrigued, a recipe was found, and the Pokey Stix making commenced!
I'm a firm believer that the dorm microwave is an underrated cooking tool. Unfortunately, it tends to be used solely for re-heating sad, lonely, frozen dinners for one. However, when used properly the microwave is a magical device that can be used to make peanut butter fudge and CAKE. What I’m about to tell you is extremely dangerous, as it will enable you to make deliciously fudgy chocolate cake at a moments notice—please continue reading at your own risk.
As I’ve previously mentioned, Penn Kebab is one of the best places to get some handcrafted fast food. To be honest, I’m not sure how the people who live in the apartments above Penn Kebab don’t weigh 500 pounds, but I guess they possess some self-control.
