Michael Pilato, the local artist and proud creator of the mural on Heister Street, has been busy lately. The mural that he calls "Inspiration" has seen a couple modifications since November and maybe seeing a few more in the coming months.
Monday was a day that we all feared was looming, but didn’t want to admit. We were scared to think what a society without Joe Paterno would be like. Well, friends, alumni, and fans, today, January 23rd, marks the first day of that post-Joe Paterno world.
At the opening of Friday’s Board of Trustees meeting, Governor Tom Corbett addressed his fellow board members and the public on hand. Corbett commended the Penn State student body for its positivity since early November.
Late Wednesday night, Pete Thamel and Mark Viera of the New York Times published an article that addresses the Penn State Board of Trustee’s decision to fire legendary football coach Joe Paterno. The Times had spoken to thirteen of the thirty-two board members, who up until this point, have remained silent. For over three hours, they attempted to recall the tough decisions that led to the termination of Paterno and former Penn State president, Graham Spanier.
Rick Santorum, Penn State graduate and Republican presidential candidate, came in second place in the Iowa caucus yesterday. Santorum had been polling in the low single-digits before a late surge this weekend put him in contention to win the caucus.
We Penn Staters will be scrutinized by outsiders for the foreseeable future. Does it suck? Yea, it really does. Like it or not, this scandal is a part of our lives now. I suggest you learn to live with it. That being said, when these comments do come flying your way, understand that the person doesn’t understand the pain and hurt that you feel. Don’t get argumentative or confrontational. We’re better than that.
