
Last night, students of this university exploited the recently uncovered rape of 20 boys as an opportunity to chant “USA! USA! USA!” on Beaver Avenue. These were not protesters, they were not patriots—they were jackasses.

The Board of Trustees has betrayed us all, and in an apparent effort to save the image of Penn State, has only tarnished it further. They're only interested in saving themselves.

Even before this sordid affair began, we had our doubts. Could the 84-year old, who's spent more time up in the press box than down on the field, really demand a contract extension? Deep down, we'd all been wondering whether this would be Joe Paterno's last year. But now, I think it's safe to say, we know it will be.

When the College of Communications scheduled Former Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, P.J. Crowley, to speak at the Ben Bronstein Lecture in ethics and public relations, they certainly couldn't have expected it to fall at a more appropriate time.
