Penn State falls to Ohio State in NCAA Semifinals

The Penn State men's volleyball team could not turn home-court advantage into a win, losing to Ohio State in the NCAA Semifinals 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 22-25, 23-25) on Thursday night. With the loss, the Nittany Lions lose the chance to play for their third NCAA Championship. The Buckeyes used a strong block and effective attack to put the Nittany Lions out of rhythm the entire match. Ohio State moves on to the final against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 7:30.

Lt. Michael Murphy ’98 Honored by Ship Name

Late Medal of Honor recipient and Penn State alumnus Lt. Michael Murphy will be recognized on Saturday when a destroyer will be named in his honor. Murphy was a 1998 graduate of Penn State and, according to Penn State Live, is the only Penn State alumnus to ever receive the Medal of Honor.

Penn State Students Honored by Society of Professional Journalists

Penn State students Lexi Belcufine and Andy Colwell were honored this week by the Society of Professional Journalists for the 2010 Mark of Excellence Awards. Belcufine was declared the National Winner for her work in Feature Writing, and Colwell was named a National Finalist in Feature Photography.

Belcufine, having won, be recognized with the other national winners in September at the Excellence in Journalism Conference in New Orleans. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Collegian.

WHITEOUT: DJ White Noise

For any of those who have frequented frat row this past year, you may have become familiar with the mash-up beats of DJ White Noise, aka Mike McCourt.

This political science sophomore, and staff head of Jam 91, The Lion 90.7fm's hip hop show, has managed to garner Penn State cult fame status, and has even traveled on request to lay down the funk for parties at schools such as Bucknell University and Villanova University. In early April, he released his sixth album, WHITEOUT, sponsored by DirtyMexicanLemonade.com. In light of this recent release, I met up with White Noise to uncover the foundation and inspirations behind this "cut and paste" composer, and constructed a brief review of the album.

Penn State Gym Schedules for Finals Week

The Penn State Aerobic and Fitness Classes released their Spring 2011 Finals Week Fitness Class Schedule for students with membership who would like to keep in shape after they study for their final exams starting Monday, May 2.
