The Penn State men's volleyball team hosted two quality teams from California last weekend. After losing to UC Irvine on Friday, the Nittany Lions rebounded to sweep CS Northridge on Saturday.
After the weekend games, Penn State's record stands at 7-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Nittany Lions have three games this week. First up is a road game on Wednesday with rival Ohio State followed by two home contests with conference opponents.

I know I said I wouldn't write about study abroad, but allow me to indulge a bit for this one column. On my program so far, I've met people from a wide range of universities. The schools represented run the gambit from the University of Missouri and the University of Colorado-Boulder to Georgetown and Williams. Course subject matter here ranges from economics and history to film and architecture. The existence of sufficient academic rigor in many study abroad programs, this one included, is debatable however. European pedagogy is different than in the States, and as a result, home universities treat study abroad classes differently.

It seems as though former Nittany Lions are the pick for head coaching positions this year. Tom Bradley was courted by UConn, Temple and Pittsburgh, Al Golden left Temple to become the new coach at Miami and Paul Pasqualoni ended up being named the new coach at Connecticut. Penn State can now add one more alum to the list of football head coaches, although this newly hired coach has made it to the big stage.

Alex Bentley scored 25 points to lead the Penn State women's basketball team to an 82-75 win over 20th-ranked Iowa on Sunday. This win was the fifth straight for the Lady Lions and their third straight on the road. Penn State improves to 20-5 overall and 9-2 in the Big Ten with the victory. The last time the Lady Lions won 20 games was in the 2003-2004 season.
Penn State leads the Big Ten by half a game over eleventh-ranked Michigan State, which is Penn State's next opponent. The teams will square off in the Bryce Jordan Center on Thursday at 7 p.m. The winner of this game will be in a strong position to win the Big Ten regular season title.

When President Barack Obama visited Penn State last Thursday, he stopped by a roundtable of student leaders and shared some thoughts about key issues America faces. The video, as could be expected considering the techno-savvy White House that the President does, has now find its way to the Internet for all of us to enjoy. Check it out after the jump.

With new texting programs like GroupMe, you can have conversations that resemble AOL chatrooms straight from your cell phone. GroupMe is modeled after Blackberry "groups" and is available to anyone, not just people with smart phones. In theory it sounds like a great way to communicate with people you're working with in your classes, members of your organization's executive boards, or even large committees. But what looks great on paper is a terrible idea in real life. Throw fifteen or so people into one giant texting group and now your phone is being spammed with Texts From Last Night and drama over who hooked up with who at this week's social.
