Some Dumbass Gets Wet

On January 28 at the State Theatre, Iceman Wim Hof will immerse himself in a freezing cold tank of ice water for longer than 1 hour and 50 minutes in an attempt to break a record.

Still not interested? Well let's put it in different terms. Some dude who calls himself the "Iceman" will stay in a tank of ice water for longer than anyone really cares.

But, if you are a person who is fascinated by this, make sure to hit up the event. The "Iceman" will give a lecture after his stunt (of sorts).

Honors College Benefactor Bill Schreyer Dies

Last night on Twitter, a number of students tweeted condolences for William A. Schreyer, who is perhaps best well known here as the namesake and benefactor of the Schreyer Honors College. It wasn't until this morning, though, that we found official confirmation of the reports.

First reported by StateCollege.com's Adam Smeltz, the Center for Strategic and International Studies published a release expressing the think-tank's sorrow at Schreyer's death. Schreyer was a major benefactor of the nonpartisan institute. We will update this post with more information as it becomes available.

HUB Titles: It’s Kind of a Funny Story

I’ve been known to crack some jokes here at Onward State. Most of my stories are as serious as a one-legged orphan kitten getting punched in the face by a Native American being forced off his land. That is some super downer stuff right there. Dig through some of my past stories, though, and you just might let loose a chuckle or two. But would I ever joke about mental illness? Of course not. I’m not that heartless. “It’s Kind of a Funny Story,” however, was just crazy enough to try it. The result just might blow your mind.

Read on after the break to find out about the premise, the performance, and the final verdict.

PSU Alum Gets Some Strange Love at Sundance

The world-famous Sundance Film Festival began this week in Park City, Utah. One of the 117 films being shown is Penn State alumnus Chris Radcliff’s The Strange Ones. The film is 15 minutes long and will be screened several times throughout the festival, premiering on the first day.

Radcliff graduated from PSU in 2004 with a degree in film-video. He created The Strange Ones with Lauren Wolkstein, who went to graduate school with Radcliff at Columbia University. The film is about a man and boy who take shelter in a motel swimming pool during a journey to parts unknown. Things quickly get odd and confusing. In fact, t’s remarkably similar to my last summer vacation, just replace “motel swimming pool” with “Honda Civic” and “parts unknown” with “Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.”
