The Big Ten Network Wants You To Switch Now

Last week at Big Ten Media Days, Big Ten Network President Mark Silverman once again reiterated the fact that many Penn State alumni are not receiving the Big Ten Network as part of the basic cable package. He also pointed out that with less than a month until the September 4th season-opening football game against Youngstown State (which will be aired on the network), the time is now to switch providers.

Justin Kredible Arrives Justin Time for Fall

Justin “Kredible” Willman is set to bring magic and puns to campus on August 25th. The show will be sponsored by SPA and held in the HUB’s Heritage Hall at 8 pm. The performance is part of a tour by Kredible that includes multiple other universities.

Curtis Drake Likely to Miss Alabama Game

Less than one week into the preseason, Penn State has suffered its first major injury, sidelining potential starter Curtis Drake for 6-8 weeks. Drake suffered a stress fracture to his leg Monday afternoon during a non-contact drill. Drake will reportedly have surgery Wednesday, which will certainly keep him off the field for the Alabama game.

Fmr. Penn Stater Survives Crash that Kills Sen. Ted Stevens

At around 8PM Alaska Daylight Time last night, a small plane crashed near Bristol Bay in Alaska. Of the nine passengers on board the plane, five were killed, including long-time Alaska Senator Ted Stevens. One of the four survivors, however, was a former Penn Stater. Reuters is reporting that Sean O'Keefe and his son are among the survivors and have been airlifted to a hospital in Anchorage, about 350 miles away, for treatment.

Earlier this afternoon, President Spanier spoke with CNN news anchor Ali Velshi on the state of higher education in the United States. He weighs in on a study conducted by the College Board about the US lagging behind other developed countries in graduation rates among young adults. He believes that the US isn't actually lagging behind but that the rest of "the world is catching up to us."
